I’m w atching 30 minutes of video of a sewer main . No audio, just a camera on a crawler. This is the third one this week, two videos per pipe, a pre lining video and a post lining video . Very exciting.

what you do if you see a clown down there?

No, no I don’t. :) It does look like a cool rig though. I would imagine the only time it’s ever that clean is when it’s brand new though.

They usually get pressure washed with diluted bleach water after each use. Raw sewage is as nasty as you would imagine it is.

My work just finished one major sewer lining project and is about to start a second.
Whoever ran the directional bore machine for the local gas company couldn’t have hit more laterals if he had tried.

Oh man, I’ve seen that but not too often. HDD in small diameter, they don’t even know when they go through a pipe, I prefer HDD to be much deeper to avoid those issues.

This is a siphon, your nomograph is not applicable.

I see a Youtube side gig here. Add some humorous commentary and upload.

Ahhh, good to know! Siphons are used when a pipe has to fight gravity at some point , correct?
![]() 10/17/2019 at 19:14 |

Siphons are used when crossing under waterways or roads and a straight grade alignment is not possible. Generally you can still use mannings or hazen williams, your slope is the inlet elevation minus the outlet elevation divided by the length. They are not

Do you have to watch it at 1x speed, or can you at least speed it up?
![]() 10/17/2019 at 21:27 |
|
I use high speed fast forward when the camera stops. There is only about about 5 minutes of useful video here.

Gotcha. This is my first foray into hydraulics, and the class is a general wastewater management class, so we cover hydrology and hydraulics a bit, but it isn’t the focus of the class.
